The Compass Inn offers many different services to a wide variety of customers. From business travellers to wedding groups. Locals that drink in the bar to people from a wider area who come to eat in the restaurant. The solution needed to be appropriate for all of them.
The one thing that people who stop at The Compass Inn have in common is that they are all on a journey. They all come from and are going to different places. They travel for many reasons. They all have different needs. The constant is whatever direction they’re heading in, they will receive a warm welcome and genuine hospitality.
The brief required us to create a brand toolkit with enough options and flexibility to cater for the wide range of messaging necessary, from signage to menus to social media. We started by abstracting the compass motif to make a memorable mark. One that says The Compass Inn as opposed to compasses in general. Moving it away from the previous approach allowed us to embrace the concept of travel and direction.
The rebrand reflects the unique personality of the building, from the exposed stone walls and open fireplaces of the bar areas to the characterful Orangerie at the heart of the venue.
The iconic Virginia Creeper that covers much of the building has been incorporated into the identity offering an immediate visual connection with the location.
“I cannot thank you enough for the recent work you have done for us.
Whilst keen to update our branding I cannot pretend I was not nervous about actually taking the plunge. However your process was simple, and I truly think we discovered a lot about ourselves during the sessions we had.
The ideas forming a journey through to the final brand was thrilling to be a part of and it was obvious that you were taking our feedback and reactions on board as we went.
Honestly, it’s been a pleasure to work with Valhalla and the obvious passion for what they do, and we already love the new us!”
